I am interested in investigating the impact of ocean acidification (OA) on herbivorous interactions and how changes in grazing might affect algal community structure. In rocky intertidal ecosystems, key players in grazer-algae interactions are at risk in an increasingly acidic ocean because many are calcifiers, such as limpets and coralline algae. My research will examine 1) the interaction strength between limpets, coralline algae, and kelp; 2) the changes in feeding rate and food preferences of limpets that may occur under OA; and 3) the likely community consequences of OA-induced changes in limpet grazing. I hope to inform the responsible management of coastal ecosystems by relating climate change predictions to ecological outcomes.
